I was given a special assignment to make images with as many of these musicians as possible, but to do it outside the theater in a more natural setting that is iconic to the Pillow.
Michelle Dorrance is a killer performer, a skilled musician and brings positive energy to every space she presents work. It was a joy seeing her several times this summer, in several gorgeous performing arts venues – Vail International Dance Festival & Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival.
Outside the Ted Shawn Theater last night, I could hear the booming of the Dorrance Dance tap dancers on stage, their sound only dwarfed by the thunderous applause from the audience. They are all fantastic, the dancers and the musicians.
Last week I admitted that it took me six years to work up the courage to ask artists to spend time with me making dance portraits. When I finally did, I started making tons of photos. For the past three summers (2012, 2013 & 2014) I’ve asked dance artists at Jacob’s Pillow to join me in my Natural Light Studio to create beautiful photos together. These are just some of my favorites from last summer 2014.
Every summer, my wife and I move back into our cabin in the Berkshires down the road from Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Nel is the videographer for the festival, managing the documentation of all of the summer’s performances as well as any additional video marketing needs.
