Artists go through a very busy week when they come to Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and are pulled in many different directions. It’s more than warming up and performing. It’s participating in Pillow events for donors and guests, talking about their creative inspiration in Post-Show Talks, attending champagne toasts after opening night and a cast party after Saturday’s evening performance…

Daniil Simkin & his dad Dmitrij who designed the show
There’s a lot of activity they’re involved in, and Daniil Simkin and his INTENSIO dancers were gracious enough to make time for me and allow me to capture them in more than performance. This dance photo essay features shots from backstage in performance, from the house in dress rehearsal, and in the studio while they were warming up. They made time for a quick portrait session with me in my Natural Light Studio inbetween shows on a Saturday afternoon. This story is not comprehensive at all, because there’s so much to cover, but I think it gives you a good glimpse into the life of a Pillow artist each summer.
