La Otra Orilla
La Otra Orilla brought their unique flamenco dance to Jacob’s Pillow in 2013, and I was blown away. I was really excited that they were coming back this summer.
La Otra Orilla is from Montreal and is made up of solo dancer, Myriam Allard, her vocalist husband and accompanying musicians. They are all stellar. Although Myriam dances flamenco, it’s not a flamenco show. The Pillow says the company performs with the “deep mastery of traditional flamenco dance and the music of Andalusia, married with a rebellious contemporary twist,” and that’s a perfect way to describe it. It’s explosive, it’s innovative, it’s creative and it keeps you guessing.
The photo above was in The New York Times this week.
Myriam is full of energy, and she really takes the audience with her. For me, La Otra Orilla’s performance is the best show of the summer. I loved every minute of it. I’m going to see it again tonight.
I had the opportunity to make some portraits with Myriam, too, and I’m excited to share those with you soon.
I have not photographed Sarasota Ballet before, and while I made photos in dress rehearsal, I found that the dancers are beautiful and the pieces they brought to the Pillow are engaging. One of the dances was super, super dark, but we still made great pictures, because they were fantastic.
The New York Times featured my photographs of Sarasota Ballet this week as well. This is the 9th consecutive show I’ve had a dance photo in the Times during this Festival alone! It is always exciting to see my work in print.
